Homeownership

As home prices continue to increase, the demand for affordable housing accelerates. It becomes increasingly more difficult for households with limited incomes to afford a decent place to live. The Utah Housing Corporation works continually to create innovative affordable housing programs to help hard working, low and moderate income families afford to purchase their own homes.

These programs make a significant difference in the lives of thousands of Utah Families. A home is very important to the people of Utah. Owning a home provides families with a sense of belonging, security and economic stability.  Homeownership also brings social substance and financial strength to our neighborhoods. These financial, economic and social benefits are made more attainable by UHC’s affordable homeownership programs.

Homeownership Programs

Utah Housing Corporation’s “FirstHome” mortgage program is geared towards families of modest income who are first time homebuyers. This program offers lower interest rates that keep the monthly house payments affordable allowing families with smaller incomes to purchase a home.

UHC “FirstHome Plus” program features all of the same benefits of the FirstHome program, plus it provides a second mortgage for down payment and closing costs.  This program is for borrowers who have not been able to save enough money for down payment and closing costs. FirstHome Plus provides an additional option to limited income working families.

In 2009, UHC raised over $195 million for affordable housing and assisted almost 1,300 lower-income households across Utah in buying a home of their own.
